Scientists from Roche Pharma Early Research and Development (pRED) have developed a method to deliver large-molecule therapeutics across the blood-brain barrier with much greater efficiency. With their method, which they have called Brain Shuttle, “we have now opened up the druggable space in the brain,” Roche pRED head of neuroscience, ophthalmology and rare diseases, Luca Santarelli, told BioWorld Today. The blood-brain barrier keeps most large molecules (and any number of small ones, too) from crossing out of the circulation and into the brain.
