News from the 50th meeting of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry in Orlando, Fla., which is continuing through Thursday:

Advion BioSciences Inc., of Ithaca, N.Y., introduced its NanoMate 100 and ESI Chip System, which it said is the first fully automated platform for nanoelectrospray mass spectrometry. The system is designed to advance the sensitivity, data quality and sample throughput for sample analysis.

Amersham Biosciences, of Piscataway, N.J., the life sciences business of Amersham plc, introduced Ettan Maldi-ToF Pro and Ettan CAF-Maldi sequencing kit. Ettan Maldi-ToF Pro is the first Maldi-ToF mass spectrometer to have completely integrated and automated database searching of both peptide mass fingerprint and post-source decay data for protein identification, it said.

Bruker Daltonics Inc., of Billerica, Mass., announced further enhancements to its ultraflex high-throughput mass spectrometry system; the introduction of AccuMass, a method for high mass accuracy protein identification on its esquire3000plus ion trap mass spectrometers; the introduction of CombiSource, which the company said for the first time combines electrospray ionization and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization; the introduction of HyStar 2.3, the latest version of its hyphenation software for LC/MS and LC-NMR/MS applications; and the introduction of what it said is the first ultrahigh-field 12 Tesla actively shielded magnet for its APEX IV Fourier Transform Mass Spectrometry product line.

Cohesive Technologies Inc., of Franklin, Mass., said its turbulent flow high-throughput liquid chromatography, called TurboFlow, and its multiplexing technology are the subject of 15 presentations at the conference. TurboFlow does not require any sample preparation and operates at a greater speed, while also achieving separation performance superior to laminar flow chromatography, the company said.

Genomic Solutions Inc., of Ann Arbor, Mich., launched its Investigator PWRHouse bioinformatic software suite. PWRHouse combines and extends the front-end sample tracking and 2D gel imaging features of Genomic Solutions' Protein Warehouse with the mass spectrometry data analysis and storage package Radars/MS.
