Smart Smartt e-Patch making chemistry run like a Swiss clock

PARIS – Once you've swallowed the idea of intelligent pills that can be loaded with cameras and therapeutics, you're ready to think about the potential for a smart skin patch. While it is not much of a stretch today to imagine a skin patch loaded with microelectronics, you may find yourself asking why anyone would bother to do it? The answer is that complex disease requires multiple medications to treat different target regions in sequence or simultaneously for sustained efficacy. "Imagine the problems for oncologists who increasingly are using drug combinations, so-called chemotherapy cocktails," said Serge Bischoff, the CEO of Rhenovia Pharma Ltd., of Mulhouse, France.
