Entelos Inc., of Foster City, Calif., was issued U.S. Patent No. 6,862,561, titled, "Method and Apparatus for Computer Modeling a Joint." The patent covers methods of modeling biological processes in the joint, including cartilage metabolism and tissue inflammation.

Euroscreen SA, of Brussels, Belgium, received U.S. Patent No. 6,872,538, to further protect its high-throughput screening platform called AequoScreen. The claims are related to a particular screening method for modulators for calcium-coupled proteins by measuring the intracellular calcium.

Genaissance Pharmaceuticals Inc., of New Haven, Conn., received a notice of allowance for a patent, co-owned with Duke University, which claims testing for a common genetic variant in the CYP3A4 gene to predict poor metabolism of certain drugs.

Genetronics Biomedical Corp., of San Diego, said its subsidiary, Genetronics Inc., received U.S. Patent No. 6,865,416, titled, "Electrically Induced Vessel Vasodilation," for a vascular application of its electroporation technology.
