John McLean, Managing Director, Central Region and Co-Leader, Life Sciences Practice, is internationally recognized for his work identifying senior executives on behalf of healthcare, life sciences, technology, media and financial services companies. With more than 25 years of healthcare consulting experience, John has recruited presidents and CEOs, COOs, CFOs, CIOs and CTOs for Fortune 500 companies and industry leaders such as 3M, Abbott Laboratories, Cardinal Health, AMS, Sysmex, Navistar, BorgWarner, Dentsply, Keystone Consulting and Thermo Fisher Scientific. John’s search expertise includes an in-depth understanding of company culture, best practices, executive compensation and corporate governance.
Prior to joining Witt/Kieffer, John served as Executive Vice President at DHR International in Chicago. During his nearly nine years at DHR, John co-founded the company’s life sciences executive search practice. John also worked closely with many private equity firms including Norwest Equity Partners, Nautic Partners and Sage Capital on numerous assignments for their portfolio companies.
Prior to that, John served as a consultant at Hewitt Associates advising clients such as Sony, Mitsubishi, Harley Davidson and Ameritech on executive compensation and sales management and rewards programs. He also has more than 14 years of experience in senior sales and marketing roles with Johnson & Johnson, American Hospital Supply Corporation and Orthodontic Research and Equipment Corporation.
John is an accomplished writer, having co-authored A Study of Account-Based Sales Teams and Human Resource Trends in Consumer Products Sales Organizations, and is asked to speak on a variety of management performance and incentive compensation topics. John is also ombudsman and member of the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business Alumni Association and was co-fundraising chairman for the Grammy Foundation in Chicago supporting music education in schools.
