• Abbott Diabetes Care (Alameda, California) reported the launch of its FreeStyle Lite blood glucose monitoring system after receiving FDA 510(k) clearance. The system features an automatic alibration feature that eliminates the manual coding step usually required by most blood glucose meters before starting a new vial of test strips. It provides results in an average of five seconds and requires a small blood sample size (0.3 microliter). Abbott Diabetes Care makes glucose monitoring systems.

• AHA Solutions (Washington, DC) reported the launch of The Patient Flow platform, a portfolio of AHA-endorsed products and services designed to improve hospital performance and contribute to the enhancement and delivery of patient care. The portfolio offers educational tools and services to increase their capacity to serve more patients; reduce the impediments that create patient flow problems; improve the consistency, quality, and safety of care; and improve the experience and satisfaction of the people they serve. Endorsed products will include services and technologies that affect hospitals' ability to better serve the patient from the time of referral through scheduling and admissions. The platform will include a variety of applications and technologies to improve processes during a patient's hospital visit through their discharge, and follow-up.
