• Campbell Rogers, MD, will join Cordis (Miami Lakes, Florida) in the newly created role of chief technology officer, effective early July. Rogers was most recently associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, and director, Cardiac Catherization Laboratory, Cardiovascular Division, Brigham and Women's Hospital. Cordis, a Johnson & Johnson company, is a leader in interventional vascular technology.

• Global bio-nanotech company pSivida (Perth, Australia) has named Michael Soja vice president, finance and CFO. In addition, Lori Freedman has been appointed vice president, corporate affairs, general counsel and secretary. Both Soja and Freedman are based at pSivida's Boston facility. Soja is the former vice president of finance and CFO of Control Delivery Systems, which was acquired by pSivida in December 2005. Aaron Finlay, who has served as pSivida's CFO and company secretary, will remain in Australia and continue as the company secretary while pSivida is still an Australian company and remain CFO of AION Diagnostics and pSiNutria, both wholly owned subsidiaries. Freedman is the former vice president of corporate affairs, general counsel, and secretary of Control Delivery Systems.

• Uroplasty (Minneapolis) has appointed David Kaysen as president and CEO. Kaysen will also serve as a director of Uroplasty. Daniel Holman, chairman and interim president and CEO, will continue to serve as chairman. Kaysen, currently the president and CEO of Advanced Duplication Services, has also served as president and CEO of Diametrics Medical and Rehabilicare. Uroplasty develops products for the treatment of voiding dysfunctions, including urinary and fecal incontinence, overactive bladder and vesicoureteral reflux.

• The World Health Organization (WHO; Geneva) reported the passing of Dr. Lee Jong-wook, director-general, who died on May 22 in the hospital following surgery to remove a blood clot on his brain. He led WHO, the United Nations specialized agency for health, in its mission to help people attain the highest possible level of health, the organization said. The first United Nations agency head from the Republic of Korea, he began his five-year term as director-general of WHO in July 2003. Dr. Anders Nordstr m, currently assistant director-general for general management, will serve as acting director-general. Nordstr m was appointed as deputy to the director-general in November 2003.
