• McKesson Business Performance Services (Atlanta) has been selected to optimize revenue cycle management for Citizens Medical Professional, the employed physician group of Citizens Medical Center (Victoria, Texas), a 344-bed acute care hospital in Victoria.

McKesson will take responsibility for creating a unified billing and reporting platform to support the 19 primary care physicians and specialists of Citizens Medical Professional. McKesson will provide coding, claims, billing, denial management and collections services. The agreement is expected to improve financial performance and facilitate comprehensive management reporting.

• 3M Critical & Chronic Care Solutions (St. Paul, Minnesota) has reached a group purchasing agreement with healthcare alliance company Premier (Charlotte, North Carolina) for multiple catheter securement and stability products. In a move aimed at bringing greater economic efficiencies to Premier's more than 100,000 health care provider members, the new agreement allows them to take advantage of special pricing and terms pre-negotiated by Premier. The purchasing contract covers products including Tegaderm CHG Chlorhexidine Gluconate I.V. Securement Dressings and Tegaderm I.V. Advanced Securement Dressings as well as the 3M PICC/ CVC Securement Device + Tegaderm I.V. Advanced Securement Dressing, a sutureless securement system.

Unlike many of the single-purpose products previously covered by Premier's purchasing agreement with a competitor, the products included in the new agreement with 3M were designed to accommodate multiple catheter types. For example, the PICC/ CVC Securement system accommodates the majority of PICC and short-term CVC catheters with diameters up to and including 12 French, and comes in a single package containing a dressing and a device to simplify product selection.

Tegaderm CHG Dressings combine the most critical elements of I.V. site care into a single product, offering antimicrobial protection, catheter securement, site visibility and breathability. Tegaderm I.V. Advanced Securement Dressings are comprehensively designed to deliver exceptional patient care by providing effective catheter securement, seven day wear time, gentle removal and excellent moisture management.

3M Health Care offers solutions in the medical, oral care, drug delivery, food safety and health information markets.

• Hannover Life Reassurance Company of America (Eden Prairie, Minnesota) expands its partnership with LTCG (Orlando, Florida), which was formerly the long-term care insurance administration services division of Univita Health.

Together Hannover Re America and LTCG are providing life insurers with a scalable, total risk management solution for long term care insurance (LTCI) hybrid products, which includes both product design and pricing assistance, underwriting and risk management services, claims processing and reinsurance. "Together our two organizations assist direct insurers with every aspect related to LTCI hybrid products from product development to implementation," said Peter Schaefer, president/CEO of Hannover Re America. "This partnership leverages the mortality and morbidity expertise of both organizations."

The combo product fills a previously unmet demand in the life market that is driven by an aging population and rising nursing home costs. As many as 7 out of 10 adults over the age of 65 will become cognitively impaired or unable to complete at least two activities of daily living (e.g., bathing, dressing or eating) and may require nursing home care. The average cost of a private room in a nursing home is over $90,000 per year. Despite these rising costs, less than 3% of the population has LTC protection.

LTCG is a provider of business process outsourcing to the insurance industry, with an emphasis on supporting long-term care products. //
