• Custom Spine (Parsippany, New Jersey) reported the promotion of Frank Herrington to senior VP of sales and marketing. Herrington previously held the position of VP of sales for the Southeast region of the U.S. Custom Spine makes spinal implants and instruments.

• Pappas Ventures (Research Triangle Park, North Carolina) said that Eric Linsley has been promoted to Managing Partner. Linsley joined Pappas Ventures in 2000 and, most recently, he and founder Art Pappas led the team that closed on Pappas Ventures IV, a $102 million venture capital fund focused on the life sciences sector. Pappas Ventures invests exclusively in the life sciences sector biotechnology, biopharmaceuticals, drug delivery, medical devices and related ventures.

• Saint John's Health Center (Santa Monica, California) reported the appointment of neurosurgeon Amin Kassam, MD, as director of the new Saint John's Neuroscience Institute and faculty member of the John Wayne Cancer Institute at Saint John's. Prior to his arrival at Saint John's, Kassam was chairman of the department of neurological surgery, professor of neurological surgery, and director, minimally invasive endoNeurosurgery center at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Susan Wood was named president/CEO of Vida Diagnostics (Iowa City, Iowa). Wood, who sits on the board of Vida Diagnostics, previously was VP of marketing and technology at Vital Images. Vida makes quantitative imaging software for the analysis of pulmonary diseases.
