• CRH Medical (Vancouver, British Columbia) reported that gastroenterologist Bergein Overholt, MD, has joined the board. Overholt designed the flexible fiberoptic sigmoidoscope, which subsequently led to development of colonoscopy. Overholt is a former president of both the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American Society of Outpatient Surgeons. CRH Medical specializes in the treatment of hemorrhoids.

• EnteroMedics (St. Paul, Minnesota) has named Dan Cohen as senior VP for government relations and health policy. Most recently, Cohen has been consulting in the areas of reimbursement policy and drug/device approvals. EnteroMedics makes devices using neuroblocking technology to treat obesity and other gastrointestinal disorders.

• Henry Schein (Melville, New York) has named Lonnie Shoff president, Henry Schein Global Healthcare Specialties Group. Most recently, Shoff was senior VP/GM of applied science at Roche Diagnostics. Henry Schein provides technology offerings for dental, medical and veterinary professionals, including value-added practice management software and electronic health record solutions.

• MicroMed Cardiovascular (Houston) said Danny Bluestein, PhD, professor of bioengineering at SUNY-Stony Brook, has joined the Science Advisory Board to provide industry expertise and guidance for the HeartAssist 5 ventricular assist device, The Modern DeBakey VAD. MicroMed Cardiovascular specializes in cardiac science.

• Nanobiosym (Boston) said that John Abele, Cofounder and former co-chairman of Boston Scientific, has joined the Nanobiosym global advisory board. Nanobiosym specializes in the Gene-Radar, a portable nanotechnology platform that can rapidly and accurately detect genetic fingerprints from any biological organism.

• US Oncology (The Woodlands, Texas) reported that Yon Yoon Jorden, former CFO of four publicly traded companies, and Todd Vannucci, managing director with Morgan Stanley, have joined the board of US Oncology, and its parent company, US Oncology Holdings. US Oncology works to identify and deliver innovative services that enhance patient access to advanced cancer care.
