Medtronic (Minneapolis) reported a series of organizational and leadership changes that support the company's One Medtronic initiative.

Effective immediately, the company said it will consolidate its businesses into operating groups, each designed to leverage technologies and customers.

To support this new organizational structure the leadership changes are as follows:

Chris O'Connell has been promoted to the new position of executive VP and group president for the newly created Spinal and Biologics, Neuromodulation, Diabetes, and Surgical Technologies Group. O'Connell was formerly president of the company's Diabetes business.

The company is currently conducting an external search for a new executive VP and group president of CRDM, CardioVascular and Physio-Control Group.

Jean-Luc Butel has been promoted to the new position of executive VP and group president, International Operations.

Finally, Dr. Rick Kuntz has been named senior VP and chief scientific, clinical and regulatory officer of the Advancing Clinical and Economic Evidence.
