Ben Shappley was named president/CEO of Amedica (Salt Lake City). Shappley will also serve on the company's board. Most recently, Shappley was president/CEO of SpineMatrix. Amedica is a spinal and orthopedic implant company focused on silicon nitride ceramic technologies.

Mike Temple was named CEO of the medical device startup Blacktoe Medical, which could soon release its first product. Previously, Temple was executive VP/GM at Bioject Medical Technologies. Blacktoe makes a finger-mounted ultrasound probe, called the SonicEye, that's designed to cut down on unneeded lab tests and shorten the length of surgeries.

Hooper Holmes (Basking Ridge, New Jersey) reported the appointment of Suzanne Cabrera, RN, as director of clinical services for the company's Health & Wellness division. Cabrera previously has served as an Occupational Health Nurse at Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle. Hooper Holmes' Health and Wellness Division provides a complete biometric screening service for health & care management companies.

Michael Chisholm has joined Scan-Optics (Manchester, Connecticut) as a Solution Design Consultant. Chisholm previously was with Global 360 where he worked with customers including AFLAC, Cigna, MetLife, several state and local government agencies. Scan-Optics makes products for image capture and recognition.
