Alfred Gilman, MD, PhD, was named chief scientific officer of the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT; Austin). Dr. Gilman will retire his position as executive VP for academic affairs and provost of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and dean of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School to join CPRIT. In 1994, Dr. Gilman received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the discovery of G proteins and the role of these proteins in signal transduction in cells.

Jerry Baker was named CEO of Halfpenny Technologies (Blue Bell, Pennsylvania). Baker previously was president/CEO of MRO Corp. Halfpenny Technologies is a health information exchange company that enables interoperability between physician electronic medical records (EMRs) and hospitals, laboratories and other ancillary service providers.

Duane Albro was named to the board of Lakeland Industries (Ronkonkoma, New York). Albro is president/CEO of Warwick Valley Telephone. Lakeland Industries makes safety garments and accessories for the industrial protective clothing market.

Gregory Kay, MD, was named interim CEO of Valley Presbyterian Hospital (VPH; Van Nuys, California). Kay has been a member of the VPH board since 2006. He also serves on the senior management team for Natural Balance Pet Foods. VPH is a 350-bed acute-care hospital in the San Fernando Valley.
