Brian Doughty was promoted to VP of commercial operations at Cardiovascular Systems (St. Paul, Minnesota). In addition, Scott Kraus was promoted to VP of sales, and Nabil Dib, MD, was named medical advisor. Doughty previously was the company's VP of marketing; Kraus was a senior sales director. Dib is an assistant professor of medicine at University of California, San Diego. Cardiovascular Systems makes interventional treatment systems for vascular disease.

The Department of Health and Human Services (Washington) reported the selection of Henry Claypool as director of the HHS Office on Disability. Claypool has 25 years of experience developing and implementing disability policy at the federal, state, and local levels, and he has personal experience with the nation's healthcare system from the perspective of an individual with a disability. Claypool currently is policy director at Independence Care System.

• Valley Presbyterian Hospital (VPH; Van Nuys, California) reported the death of its president/CEO, Albert Greene, at age 59. Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in June 2008, he battled the disease for 10 months, while still continuing to lead VPH. Greene was president/CEO of VPH since March 2006. Founded in 1958, VPH is one of the largest acute-care hospitals in the San Fernando Valley.
