Peter Gardiner, MD, was named VP of medical affairs and senior medical officer of BG Medicine (Waltham, Massachusetts). Previously, Gardiner was medical director of global medical affairs & senior medical officer for Bristol-Myers Squibb Medical Imaging. BG Medicine makes molecular diagnostics based on biomarkers to improve patient outcomes and contain healthcare costs.

Kevin Conroy was named president/CEO, and Maneesh Arora senior VP/CFO of Exact Sciences (Marlborough, Massachusetts), effective April 2. They most recently were president/CEO and CFO, respectively, of Third Wave Technologies. Exact Sciences is a molecular diagnostics company focused on colorectal cancer.

Grady Barnes, PhD, was named chief scientific officer of Fujirebio Diagnostics (Malvern, Pennsylvania). Barnes most recently was VP of R&D at Meridian Bioscience. Fujirebio Diagnostics is a cancer diagnostics company that specializes in cancer biomarker assays.

Veteran journalist Bill Scanlon has joined NanoLogix (Hubbard, Ohio) to coordinate publicity in advance of major news. For the past 18 years, Scanlon worked at the Rocky Mountain News, until its closing last month. NanoLogix is focused primarily on medical diagnostics.

• Oxygen Biotherapeutics (Costa Mesa, California) reported the expansion of the company's board of directors with the addition of J. Melville Engle to the board. Engle has raised money on Wall Street, launched hundreds of products, and has a broad management and financial background, including six years at Dey LP, where he was the firm's president/CEO. He has also held senior executive positions with Merck Generics Group and Allergan. Oxygen Biotherapeutics, is developing a perfluorocarbon therapeutic oxygen carrier and liquid ventilation product (Oxycyte) and an implantable glucose sensor.
