• Robert Bowen has been named VP and CFO of Abiomed (Danvers, Massachusetts), a provider of heart recovery and circulatory support products. Bowen previously was VP and CFO for GSI Group (Bedford, Massachusetts).

• Richard Walovitch, senior VP of clinical research for Acusphere (Watertown, Massachusetts), has resigned to pursue another opportunity. His resignation follows an 11-year career with Acusphere, in which he oversaw the company's clinical trials for its lead product candidate, Imagify (Perflubutane Polymer Microspheres) for Injectable Suspension, a cardiovascular drug for the detection of coronary artery disease. Acusphere is a specialty pharmaceutical company that makes new drugs and improved formulations of existing drugs using its microsphere technology.

• Richard Price was named VP of payment and healthcare delivery policy for the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed; Washington). Price most recently was legislative and health policy consultant with Hart Health Strategies. AdvaMed advocates for a legal, regulatory and economic environment that advances global healthcare by assuring worldwide patient access to medical technology.

• Jennifer Mieres, MD, was named president of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC; Bethesda, Maryland). Dr. Mieres is associate professor of medicine and director of nuclear cardiology at New York University. Mieres will serve as president of ASNC until 2010. ASNC is a professional association dedicated to education, advocacy, and quality for the field of nuclear cardiology.

• Matthew Margolies was named senior VP of sales for CardioNet (Conshohocken, Pennsylvania). Margolies joins CardioNet from Cardinal Health, where he most recently was VP of sales for the respiratory care division. CardioNet is a wireless medical technology company with an initial focus on the diagnosis and monitoring of cardiac arrhythmias.

• Paul LaViolette has joined SV Life Sciences (Boston) as a venture partner focusing on the medical technology sector. LaViolette, the former COO of Boston Scientific, joins SVLS in January 2009 and will be based in the firm's Boston office. SV Life Sciences is a venture capital adviser and manager that makes selected investments in businesses with experienced entrepreneurs and management teams.

• Thomas Bohannon has been appointed VP and chief accounting officer of Vicor Technologies (Boca Raton, Florida). Vicor developed the PD2i, an algorithm, and is now awaiting FDA 510(k) clearance for its first product, the PD2i Analyzer that measures heart rate variability.
