Prashant Mehta was named director of business development for Aethlon Medical (San Diego). Previously, Mehta was managing director of Gemini Strategies. Aethlon Medical makes the Hemopurifier, a first-in-class medical device designed to treat infectious disease.

Brad Snow was named VP of sales for Aragon Surgical (Palo Alto, California). Previously, Snow was director of sales and marketing at Medlogics. Aragon Surgical makes a variety of surgical instruments.

• Blue Shield of California (San Francisco) said that two directors have been promoted to vice president. Jeff Hermosillo joined Blue Shield in 2006 as director of account management for the labor, public and strategic accounts team and has been promoted VP of sales and account management within that team. Tina Kibler has been promoted to VP of internal audit services from her role as director of the same group. Since joining Blue Shield in 2006, Kibler has introduced new risk assessment approaches and implemented best practices for audit execution and management follow-up. Blue Shield of California, an independent member of the Blue Shield Association, is a not-for-profit health plan.

The board of directors of CardioNet (Conshohocken, Pennsylvania) has named Randy Thurman, currently executive chairman, as interim president/CEO, and has commenced a search for a permanent replacement for departing president/CEO Arie Cohen, who has left the company to pursue other interests. Thurman most recently served as chairman/CEO of Viasys Healthcare.

• Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland) and Mubadala Healthcare (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates) have named Andrew Fishleder, MD, as CEO of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. Fishleder was instrumental in the development of Cleveland Clinic's education institute, which he recently led as its chairman. Scheduled to open in 2012, the 360-bed UAE multi-specialty hospital will be an extension of the Cleveland Clinic model.

Donald Bauman was named VP of sales and marketing of InformMed (Peoria, Illinois). Bauman has been involved in patient safety healthcare IT sales and marketing for 23 years, including leadership positions with McKesson, Bridge Medical and Cereplex. InformMed is a medication safety company focused on the medication error solution market.

Troy Burns was named chief technology officer for MedAvant Healthcare Solutions (Santa Ana, California). Burns previously was VP of technology at Misys in the EDI transaction division. MedAvant Healthcare Solutions specializes in healthcare technology and transaction services.
