A Medical Device Daily

CYTTA (Fountain Hills, Arizona) introduced its newly acquired subsidiary, Ophthalmic International (OI; Phoenix, Arizona), a manufacturer of medical products.

OI has developed and patented a two-minute, non-invasive, cost effective, alternative treatment for glaucoma and ocular hypertension, known as Pneumatic Trabeculoplasty (PNT), the company said. The company holds worldwide patents on the PNT equipment, its disposable sterile suction ring, as well as the medical procedure itself.

OI, having secured product approval throughout Europe and Canada, is marketing its product line through an exclusive distributor network.

Glaucoma is the second-leading cause of blindness, affecting more than 70 million people worldwide. According to the company, PNT has been proven through studies completed over the last 10 years to be a safe and effective treatment with no adverse side effects, unlike medications usually prescribed to treat glaucoma that come with a multitude of side effects.

In another new venture, Zassi Medical Evolutions (Fernandina Beach, Florida) reported the launch of e-Zassi, an online community dedicated to delivering efficiencies to the medical device industry by streamlining diligence, collaboration and discovery of new medical technologies and industry participants with an exclusive array of intelligent Web-based applications.

In development for several years, e-Zassi.com has been designed to extract critical technical and business related traits and attributes from technologies, organizations and individuals within the medical device-specific community. This "business DNA" can then be leveraged to increase search/match relevancy and materially enhance success rates and lower costs, the company said.

e-Zassi's Deep DNA (Device Network Attributes) profiling technology captures in-depth and highly relevant search criteria on the proficiencies, preferences and targeted areas for development of individuals and organizations.

The company said it believes that allowing members to leverage these attributes to enable collaboration in the medical device sector will lower costs and create efficiencies; as these capabilities are not typically identified or utilized by existing broad, traditional business networks or search engines.

Available by subscription, e-Zassi members will have 24/7 access to a variety of modules including what the company said is the world's first Innovation Assessment software platform.
