• Christopher Bijou was named executive VP of sales for AdvancedMD Software (Salt Lake City). Bijou most recently was senior VP of sales at UCN. AdvancedMD Software makes software-as-service applications for medical practices and medical billing services.

• Jonathan Blum and Joel Ackerman were named to the board of Kindred Healthcare (Louisville, Kentucky). Blum will serve on the company's compliance and quality committee and Ackerman will serve on the audit committee. Blum has been senior VP of public affairs for Yum! Brands since 1997. Ackerman recently resigned from Warburg Pincus, where he was a managing director and head of the health services group since 1999. Kindred, through its subsidiaries, provides healthcare services in 658 locations, including 82 long-term acute-care hospitals, 228 skilled nursing centers and a contract rehabilitation services business, Peoplefirst, which served 348 non-affiliated facilities.

• Paul LaViolette has joined SV Life Sciences (SVLS; Boston) as a venture partner focusing on the medical technology sector. LaViolette, the former COO of Boston Scientific, joins SVLS in January 2009 and will be based in the firm's Boston office. SVLS is a venture capital adviser and manager that makes selected investments in businesses with experienced entrepreneurs and management teams.
