Steven Pacelli has been appointed to the newly created position of chief administrative officer at DexCom (San Diego). Pacelli has been DexCom's senior VP of corporate affairs since July 2007. DexCom makes continuous glucose monitoring systems for use by patients at home and by healthcare providers in the hospital.

Gary Smith, PhD, has joined National Jewish Health (Denver) as executive director of the advanced diagnostics laboratories. Smith spent the previous 14 years at Laboratory Corporation of America, and most recently served as its senior vice president, managed care, Western operations. The ADx Laboratory at National Jewish Health is a diagnostic lab in respiratory, immune and related diseases.

Gerald Cagle, PhD, has as the first COO of Neuroptix (Acton, Massachusetts). Cagle most recently was senior VP of R&D/chief scientific officer of Alcon Laboratories. Neuroptix is making a non-invasive eye test to assist in the early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.

Ania Mitan has been named executive VP commercial of SIRS-Lab (Jena, Germany). Most recently, Mitan was European marketing director of Eli Lilly. SIRS-Lab is a molecular diagnostic company dealing with the field of life-threatening infections.

• Strategic Diagnostics (Newark, Delaware) said that CFO Stanley Fronczkowski will be stepping down from his current position to pursue other interests, effective April 3, 2009. Strategic Diagnostics makes biotechnology-based detection solutions for a broad range of life science, food, water, agricultural, industrial and environmental applications.
