A Diagnostics & Imaging Week
BioLucent (Aliso Viejo, California), maker of the MammoPad breast cushion, said that it has reached a new two-year agreement to provide MammoPad to OhioHealth (Columbus, Ohio), a health system. This is the second consecutive two-year agreement between the organizations.
OhioHealth is one of the largest healthcare providers in the region, and all its facilities that provide mammograms will now offer a softer, more comfortable mammogram to 50,000 women within its system each year, the company said. Those facilities include three hospitals, eight health centers, and four other imaging centers.
MammoPad is a radiolucent, FDA-cleared foam cushion that covers the cold, hard surfaces of all commercially available mammography equipment. Clinical studies show the cushion can reduce mammography-related discomfort by half for three out of four women. The cushion has already benefited more than 10 million women, the company said.
• Instrumentation Laboratory (IL; Lexington, Massachusetts) said it has received a three-year contract for its critical care portfolio from HealthTrust Purchasing Group (HealthTrust; Brentwood, Tennessee), a group purchasing organization.
The contract covers IL's portfolio of critical care analyzers, reagents, consumables and service, including IL's flagship product, the GEM Premier 3000 analyzer for blood gas, electrolyte and metabolite testing. This analyzer features intelligent quality management (iQM), an automated system that helps ensure test quality while reducing costs and saving time. iQM, coupled with its cartridge-based technology and ease of use, is designed to allow the GEM Premier 3000 to be used throughout the hospital, at the point of care and in the lab.
"Customer satisfaction with our products and services is exceptionally high, so we are confident that HealthTrust and IL will have a very positive relationship," said Brian Durkin, director of sales and national accounts at IL.
In addition to the GEM Premier 3000, IL's contract with HealthTrust includes the GEM PCL Plus, a portable coagulation analyzer; GEMweb, software for remote management of the GEM Premier 3000; and IMPACT for Critical Care, a data management system.
IL makes in vitro diagnostic instruments, related reagents and controls for use in hospitals and independent clinical laboratories. The company's product line includes critical care systems, hemostasis systems and information management systems.
HealthTrust is a group purchasing organization that supports acute care hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, alternate care sites, and physician practices.
HealthTrust is composed of more than 800 acute care facilities, including seven of the 10 largest for-profit healthcare systems in the country.
