Timothy Carmack has been named CFO at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford (Palo Alto, California). Since 2004, Carmack has worked as an independent consultant for such clients as World Vision International, Cedars Sinai Medical Center, HCA Midwest and the Camden Group. Previously, he was vice president/CFO for Huntington Memorial Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital and Anaheim Memorial Medical Center.

Doug Plunkett has been hired as director of small bone & joint clinical affairs for Musculoskeletal Clinical Regulatory Advisors (MCRA; New York). Previously, Plunkett was vice president of product development and then vice president of global arthroplasty Systems at Small Bone Innovations. MCRA is an independently operated consulting firm serving the orthopedic industry.

The National Institutes of Health reported that three scientists have been elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences . NIH Principal Deputy Director Raynard Kington, MD, PhD; Clifford Lane, MD, clinical director at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases ; and Paul Sieving, MD, PhD, director of the National Eye Institute , are among the 65 new members of the IOM. The IOM is a resource for independently informed analysis and recommendations on health issues.

Douglas Hires has been appointed vice president of product management and services for SoftMed Systems (Denver). Previously, Hires was regional vice president of sales for First Consulting Group’s Provider Segment. SoftMed is a provider of healthcare information solutions.
