Howard Lewin has joined Aksys (Lincolnshire, Illinois) as president and CEO, and as a member of the board of directors. Lewin replaces Laurence Birch, interim CEO, who will continue to serve as the company's CFO. Lewin most recently served as group vice president at DaVita. Aksys produces hemodialysis products.

Chris Oleksy has been promoted to president, Atek Medical Manufacturing (Grand Rapids, Michigan) and Atek Manufacturing (Minneapolis). Oleksy was most recently executive vice president and general manager. The Atek Companies' offerings include product design, product launch, production, packaging, labeling, microbiology services, sterilization management, distribution, supply chain services, and overall project management.

John Sullivan has joined Foundation Medical Partners (Rowayton, Connecticut) as associate. Sullivan most recently served as a consulting entrepreneur for a variety of early-stage healthcare technology companies. Foundation Medical Partners is a healthcare-focused national venture capital investment firm that actively manages more than $140 million in venture capital targeted towards start-up and early stage companies.

• HealthSouth (Birmingham, Alabama) reported that Gregory Doody, executive vice president, general counsel and secretary, has resigned in order to become general counsel of Calpine. HealthSouth will continue to work with its existing outside law firms for corporate legal services as it begins the process of recruiting a new general counsel. Doody joined HealthSouth in 2003 from the law firm of Balch & Bingham. HealthSouth is one of the nation's largest providers of outpatient surgery, diagnostic imaging and rehabilitative healthcare services, operating facilities nationwide.
