Jay Roberts will serve as acting CFO of Clarient (San Juan Capistrano, California), serving until a permanent CFO is named, expected by the end of April. Roberts comes to Clarient with more than 20 years of financial management and strategic experience, most recently serving as CFO at Daou Systems. A majority-owned subsidiary of Safeguard Scientifics, Clarient was formed in 1996 to develop and market the Automated Cellular Imaging System (ACIS).

J. C. MacRae has been appointed vice president of finance and CFO of CoreValve (Irvine, California/Paris). MacRae has 20-plus years of global financial management experience working in the medical specialty device and biopharmaceutical industries, most recently as executive vice president and CFO of ActiveX Biosciences. MacRae is expected to play a key role in CoreValve's financial strategies and commercialization of the minimally invasive ReValving System for percutaneous aortic valve replacement as an alternative to open-heart surgery.

Lawrence Sherman has joined the Physicians Academy for Clinical and Management Excellence (New York) as CEO. With more than a decade of experience in medical education, Sherman comes to Physicians Academy from his prior post as president of Jobson Education, a division of Jobson Medical Intelligence. The Physicians Academy is a provider of medical education solutions.

Mark Munroe has joined Somnia (New Rochelle, New York) as vice president of business development. Munroe has more than 10 years of business development experience and most recently served as vice president of iLIANT, an outpatient technology and management services provider. Somnia, which consists of three divisions: Office-based and Ambulatory Anesthesia, Pain Management and Accreditation Consulting, promotes the safe and cost-effective migration of surgery to the outpatient setting.
