• Alan Shaw, PhD, president and CEO ofCodexis(Redwood City, California), has been appointed to chair theBiotechnology Industry Organization’s (BIO; Washington) newly formed industrial and environmental section. Shaw has headed Codexis since the company’s spin-off from Maxygen in October 2002. Shaw previously served as president of Maxygen’s chemicals business unit from August 2001. BIO represents more than 1,000 biotechnology companies, academic institutions, state biotechnology centers and related organizations in all 50 U.S. states and 33 other countries.
