Atherotech (Birmingham, Alabama) has named Ricky Thomas chief financial officer. Thomas brings more than 24 years of financial and accounting experience to the company. Atherotech is a specialty reference laboratory focused on improving the early diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

Les Taeger has been promoted to chief financial officer of CardioTech International (Wilmington, Massachusetts). He had been CFO of the Gish Biomedical division of CardioTech, which was acquired in April of last year. Taeger joined Gish in September 2000, prior to which he held CFO positions at Cartwright Electronics and Air/Lyon. CardioTech produces medical-grade polyurethanes for use in implantable medical devices, disposable devices manufactured on an OEM basis, cardiovascular tubing systems, arterial filters, oxygenators, cardioplegia delivery systems and oxygen saturation monitors, along with hydrogel and alginate wound dressings. It also is developing a synthetic coronary artery bypass graft.

Photios (Fred) Paulson has been named interim president and chief executive officer of Vasomedical (Westbury, New York). Paulson replaces Gregory Cash, who resigned to pursue a business opportunity in Europe. Paulson has been a director of Vasomedical since April 2000, and served as president and chief executive officer of the company from October 2002 until June 2003. Vasomedical manufactures the EECP enhanced external counterpulsation system. Cash has joined Sorin Group SpA (Milan, Italy) as president of its Vascular Therapy and New Businesses unit. Sorin Group develops technologies for cardiac surgery, therapies for cardiac rhythm dysfunctions and interventional cardiology, and for the treatment of chronic kidney diseases.
