Overview

Started in 1994, Gene-IT is a bioinformatics company providing scalable software and scientific expertise for data-mining sequence data.

Gene-IT’s products include LASSAP, a scientific software that allows scientists to build their own flexible, scalable and reusable bioinformatics workflows. LASSAP contains complete sequence database management, a set of multi-threaded sequence comparison algorithms that can make use of all popular hardware platforms, and a set of result analysis capabilities.

The company’s BIOFACET combines Blast algorithm with Gene-IT’s string matching algorithms. The technology speeds computationally intense tasks from months to days, allowing for much more information to be gathered in less time, the company said.

Gene-IT is a privately held company with Societé Générale Asset Management as principal investor.
