Overview

Formed in August 2000, IBM Life Sciences is a business unit of IBM Corp. designed to enter partnerships and develop information technology solutions for life sciences industries. The IBM Life Sciences Framework is a scalable, open environment that enables researchers to combine and add new applications across all facets of the drug discovery chain.

The company’s partners include Incyte Genomics, which will incorporate the IBM DiscoveryLink data management software; LabBook Inc., to market software for analyzing genetic data; and MDS Proteomics Inc., to collaborate on research projects to solve complex, computationally intensive problems related to biotechnology and establish a biomolecular database to submit and review molecular interactions.

In addition, the unit is collaborating with NuTec Sciences Inc. to build the world’s largest supercomputer to study the gene combinations that result in disease.
