In BioWorld Today, July 7, 1997, a story on angiogenesis research conducted by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc., of Tarrytown, N.Y., contained three errors caused by a computer transmission malfunction. The scientist's name is Peter Maisonpierre. Tie is an acronym for "tyrosine kinase with immunoglobulin and EGF-like motifs." A quote from Maisonpierre should have read, "So then we asked: Is it possible that Ang-2 would block the ability of Ang-1, the first ligand, to stimulate that receptor, and hence, angiogenesis?"
