Trophix Pharmaceuticals Inc. said Friday it raised $12.5million in its second round of venture capital financing.HealthCare Investment Corp. and Everest Trust foundedthe South Plainfield, N.J., company in June 1993. Otherinvestors in this round were Oak Investment Partners, AtlasVentures, The CIT Group and Dominion Ventures. Thecompany's founding scientist is Ira Black, director of theCenter of Neuroscience at the University of Medicine andDentistry of New Jersey.The company, which has a number of sponsored researchagreements in addition to its own staff of scientists, intendsto develop small-molecule orally available drugs to treatParkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease and other centralnervous system disorders.Trophix said it plans to begin primate studies with a noveltherapy to treat Parkinson's disease later this year, and willlikely file an investigational new drug application in 1996._ Jim Shrine
