InflaZyme Pharmaceuticals Ltd. said its anti-asthma drug showedstabilizing activity on the heart function during severe asthma attacks.The activity was shown in studies on guinea pigs.The drug, Pneumocort, is a naturally occurring steroid compound thathas been isolated from the marine sponge found off the coast of NewGuinea. Rashid Aziz, executive vice president for the Vancouver,British Columbia, company, said further toxicity tests will beconducted before the drug is taken into human clinical trials, expectedin mid-1995.Pneumocort was presented Thursday in a poster session at theAmerican Lung Association's 1994 conference in Boston.
