y An article on Onyx Pharmaceuticals and Miles Inc. in the May 4 issueof BioWorld Today reported that, in 1993, the biggest collaborationbetween pharmaceutical companies and biotechnology firms was thatof Human Genome Sciences Inc. and SmithKline Beecham Corp. Thearticle was referring only to collaborations involving early-stage,private biotechnology companies and large pharmaceutical companies.y An article on Genentech Inc.'s political action committee (PAC) in thesame issue mistakenly substituted the name of Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-Calif.) for that of Rep. Lynn Schenk (D-Calif.). It was Schenk whopersuaded Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.) to oppose the concept of abreakthrough drug committee and it was also Schenk who received$6,000 in contributions from San Diego biotechnology companies.Genentech's PAC has contributed $1,000 to Schenk so far during the1993-94 election cycle.
