Alexin Pharmaceutical Corp. changed it name to Lexin PharmaceuticalCorp. to better differentiate it from companies with similar-soundingnames.The Horsham, Pa., company was founded in 1989 as the ProteaseInhibitor Research Corp. (PIRC) at the University of Pennsylvania inPhiladelphia. Its name changed to Alexin in early 1993.Lexin's lead compound, LEX032, was designed to treat inflammationof the lung caused by infection, smoke inhalation and other traumaticinjuries. The company said it proved effective in animal models, andexpects to start human clinical trials in 1995.
