Andrew Muddle has been named product developmentmanager at Ethical Holdings plc. Muddle previously wasformulation manager for Elan Corp.
Medtronic Inc. of Minneapolis has promoted Michael Ellwein tovice president and associate general counsel. The company alsopromoted Marcea Staten to vice president and assistant generalcounsel.
William Scott, senior vice president of exploratory and drugdiscovery research at Bristol-Myers Squibb PharmaceuticalResearch Institute, has been elected to the board of directors ofIxsys Inc., a San Diego company. Byron Hewett has joinedBiocircuits Corp. of Sunnyvale, Calif., as vice president of salesand marketing. Hewett came from Stericycle Inc., where he wasgeneral manager of the Midwest region.
Also joining Biocircuits is Benjamin Liu, who has become thedirector of research and technology. Liu had been the managerof methods research at Hybritech Inc.

GeneMedicine Inc. of Houston has hired three senior scientists.Alain Rolland, who had been the head of formulation research at CIRD Galderma in France, is the company's director of vectordelivery. Eric Eastman joins the company as its head of processresearch and development as well as senior scientist. Eastmancame from Lark Sequencing Technologies Inc., where he wasvice president and chief scientific officer. And RobertWaldbillig, who was a research scientist at the NationalInstitutes of Health, will head GeneMedicine's preclinicalpharmacology studies.
