IGI Inc. received U.S. Patent No. 5,219,538, allowingperfluorocarbon compounds to be encapsulated in Novasomerlipid vescles.

The Buena, N.J., company (ASE:IG) said encapsulation makesperfluorocarbons potentially more useful for applicationsranging from radioimaging and hemoglobin substitution tocosmetics.

The inert compounds are not soluble in water or lipid so theyare hard to apply to the skin, swallow or inject withoutencapsulation.
