Sepracor Inc. of Marlborough, Mass., has received exclusiverights from Research Corporation Technologies Inc. tosublicense a novel chiral synthesis technology invented byresearchers at the University of Illinois..

Known as catalytic asymmetric epoxidation, the technologyhas been shown to facilitate the large-scale, cost-effectiveproduction of single-isomer pharmaceuticals.

Sepracor will use the technology to produce single-isomerdrugs that may have greater therapeutic and safety benefitsthan those that mix isomers in 50/50 compounds. It allows fora more efficient and cost-effective method of producing singleisomers.
