Affymax N.V. said Wednesday that it promoted David B. Singerto the additional position of vice president of finance, while heretains his title of treasurer. Singer joined Affymax as vicepresident of corporate development in 1990 after serving as anassistant to the group vice president at Baxter Healthcare Corp.

Immunex Corp. promoted Thomas Mizelle to vice president ofsales and marketing from director of sales. Immunex alsonamed to its board of directors Tom A. Alberg, president and adirector of LIN Broadcasting Corp. and executive vice presidentof McGraw Cellular Communications Inc.

Somatix Therapy Corp. named Albert H. Owens Jr. director ofoncology and infectious diseases. Owens is a professor at JohnsHopkins University School of Medicine.

Protein Design Labs Inc. has named Douglas Ebersole vicepresident of licensing and general counsel. He will beresponsible for corporate partnering and licensing activitiesand legal matters. Ebersole was general counsel at NeXTComputer Inc.

Lawrence C.K. Wong has been named vice president ofdevelopment at Hybridon Inc. He was director of toxicology atSandoz Pharmaceuticals.

SciClone Pharmaceuticals Inc. named Elizabeth Brandstatermanager of commercial affairs. She was associate, ventures andlicensing, for Pilkington Visioncare Inc.

Gensia Pharmaceuticals Inc. named Alan C. Foster director ofcentral nervous system pharmacology and Gary S. Firesteindirector of immunology. Foster was a section leader in theNeuroscience Research Centre in Essex, England, and Firesteinwas assistant professor of medicine in residence at theUniversity of California, San Diego.

Ribi ImmunoChem Research Inc. named David J. Rechtmandirector of medical affairs within the newly created division ofproduct development. Rechtman was managing physician,medical affairs with Baxter Healthcare Corp.
