Redhill Biopharma Ltd.'s opaganib hydrochloride (ABC-294640) has been selected by the Radiation and Nuclear Countermeasures Program (RNCP), of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), for the nuclear medical countermeasures product development pipeline as a potential treatment for acute radiation syndrome (ARS).
Redhill Biopharma Inc. continues pushing ahead with efforts to add to the limited arsenal of therapies for treating hospitalized severe COVID-19 infections, with the latest data, based on prespecified analyses from a phase II/III study showing its SK2 inhibitor, opaganib, significantly reduced mortality when given on top of standard-of-care (SOC) Veklury (remdesivir, Gilead Sciences Inc.) and corticosteroids. It is also reporting a shorter median time to discharge (10 days vs. 14 days) and a higher proportion of patients on treatment being able to breathe unassisted by day 14 (77% vs. 63.5%).
