* Biocoll Medical Corp., of Vancouver, British Columbia, reported the merging of Biocoll and Osteopharm Ltd., of Toronto, and a name change from Biocoll to GenSci Regeneration Sciences Inc. (GenSci).
* Diatide Inc., of Londonderry, N.H., has received a research grant from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, a branch of the National Institutes of Health, of Bethesda, Md., to study the effectiveness of a hybrid compound composed of Fibrolase, a fibrinolytic agent, and P734, a synthetic peptide, for the treatment of arterial thrombosis, a major cause of heart attacks and stroke.
* Insite Clinical Trials L.L.C., a site management organization located in Research Triangle Park, N.C., has received $3.8 million in equity financing and commitments for an additional $1.2 million, for a total of $5 million. The investment is being funded by Acacia Venture Partners, of San Francisco, and affiliates.
* Procept Inc., of Cambridge, Mass., reported a drug-screening arrangement with Abbott Laboratories, of Abbott Park, Ill., to identify potential drug candidates by applying Abbott's Structure Activity Relationship by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technology to an undisclosed target from Procept. NMR is used to define the 3-D structure of chemicals and proteins, which allows high- throughput screening to identify compounds that will bind directly to a target protein.
