• BioReliance (Rockville, Maryland) said that James Kramer, PhD, has been named VP of operations for U.S. Biologics. Most recently, Kramer served as senior VP/GM of Talecris Plasma Resources. BioReliance is a contract services company that provides biologics safety testing, toxicology, viral manufacturing and laboratory animal diagnostic services to drug companies.
• Melodie Domurad, PhD, has been named VP of regulatory, medical affairs and quality systems for BioSphere Medical (Rockland, Massachusetts). Domurad joins BioSphere after 10 years at Matritech. BioSphere is a medical device company developing microspheres to treat uterine fibroids, hypervascularized tumors, and vascular malformations by a minimally invasive, image-guided medical procedure called embolotherapy.
• Chris Kepley, MD, has been named to the newly created position of nanoimmunology group leader in the nanoWorks division of Luna Innovations (Roanoke, Virginia) in Danville, Virginia. Kepley was previously assistant professor with the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. Luna makes products for the healthcare, telecommunications, energy and defense markets.
• Naviscan PET Systems (San Diego) reported four senior appointments to support its product development in organ-specific molecular imaging. Skip Mendelson was named VP of sales; Ashok Kaul, VP of marketing; Guillaume Bailliard, VP of market development; and Christopher Matthews, PhD, VP of technology. Mendelson previously was VP of sales at R2 Technology; Kaul was VP of marketing at Bacchus Vascular, Bailliard was the Americas X-Ray sales manager for GE Healthcare; and Matthews was project director at Siemens Medical Solutions. Naviscan PET Systems makes high-resolution PET scanners that are intended to provide organ-specific imaging, guide radiological and surgical procedures.
• Christopher Burton was named senior VP of sales and marketing at Third Wave Technologies (Madison, Wisconsin). Burton joins the company from GE Healthcare. Third Wave makes molecular diagnostic reagents for a variety of DNA and RNA analysis applications.
