Nancy Brown has been named the next CEO of the American Heart Association (AHA; Dallas), effective Jan. 1, 2009. Brown succeeds Cass Wheeler, who has served as CEO of the association for 11 years. Brown has served as the association's chief operating officer for the last seven years. Since 1986, she has worked with the American Heart Association in a variety of roles, including Metro Detroit Director in the Michigan Affiliate; executive VP for the Massachusetts Affiliate; executive VP for the New England Affiliate; national executive VP for science operations, and her current position of COO at the National Center.

Machiel Van Der Leest has been named CEO of Arterial Remodeling Technologies (ART; Paris) after serving as COO since March. Prior to joining ART, he was director of R&D and regulatory affairs at Minvasys. Arterial Remodeling Technologies makes bioresorbable peripheral and coronary polymer stents that promote the natural remodeling of an injured artery after angioplasty.

Valerie Moore, PhD, has been named executive director of the Nano World Headquarters (Houston). Moore is an expert in the field of nanotechnology and has spent the past seven years researching and promoting nanotechnology in the Houston area. Nano World Headquarters will serve as a center for scientific nanotechnology collaboration and as an accelerator for start-up companies, offering a centralized intellectual hub and a state-of-the-art, shared equipment facility, which is expected to open in 2011.
