Hill-Rom (Batesville, Indiana) said it has launched its enhanced CareAssist ES bed, now with connectivity features, for use in medical-surgical areas of hospitals and care facilities.

Hill-Rom says the CareAssist ES bed, through smart bed technology, easily connects to hospital networks for documenting patient status, saving time and paperwork.

New features include:

Point-of-Care controls with large, easy-to-read controls;

IntelliDrive Power Transport to increase the ease of transportation of patients by a single caregiver and to provide less strain on a caregiver's back and legs;

A fifth wheel that enhances maneuverability;

One button Dining Chair feature where a single touch of a button can move the patient gently in and out of chair position;

Open architecture to create maximum flexibility allowing the use of almost any surface, depending on the patient's risk level for skin breakdown.

Med Fadel was named CEO of BetaMED (Bryan, Texas). Previously, Fadel was COO Gila Corp./Municipal Services Bureau (MSB) in Austin. BetaMED is a provider of Power Mobility Devices and other durable medical equipment.

• Cappella (Galway, Ireland) has named Eamonn Hobbs to the board of directors. Hobbs is president/CEO and director of Delcath Systems. Capella makes products for the treatment of coronary bifurcation disease.

• Lantheus Medical Imaging (Billerica, Massachusetts) has named Robert Spurr to the position of VP, Sales and Marketing. He joins Lantheus with more than 20 years of industry experience at Novartis, Aventis, and most recently Ortho-McNeil, where he was VP of Sales and Marketing, Institutional Franchise. Lantheus Medical Imaging specializes in diagnostic medicine.

• Vyteris (Extension Fair Lawn, New Jersey) has named Eugene Bauer, MD, as chairman. Bauer is the president and chief medical officer of Peplin, a subsidiary of LEO Pharma, and was a co-founder of Connetics. Vyteris makes transdermal drug delivery devices. /P>
