Johnson Medtech (Metheun, Massachusetts), the medical products unit of Johnson Electric (also Metheun), reported the opening of a new facility in Shajing, China, and added that the plant has received ISO 13485 certification.

The new facility is exclusively devoted to the design and manufacture of medical devices, and Johnson Medtech said the facility increases its ability to meet the demands of its growing customer base.

The new Shajing facility joins the Johnson network’s plants in the U.S. and UK that have received ISO certifications.

“Johnson Medtech is on a rapid growth path that requires increased manufacturing capabilities,” said Jim Dick, senior vice president of Johnson Electric. “This new facility in Shajing enables us to continue to provide the finest in medical device manufacturing with fastest time-to-market turnaround and the indisputable quality indicated by its ISO 13485 certification.”

Johnson Medtech provides design, prototyping and manufacturing capabilities to medical device manufacturers worldwide. The new Shajing plant adds to the more than 5 million square feet of design and manufacturing workspace already owned by the network on six continents, expanding operations and enabling the company to meet its growing customer needs.

Johnson Medtech has design engineering facilities worldwide and ISO-certified manufacturing facilities in the U.S., China and the UK.

Portuguese distributor for Pharmaxis

Pharmaxis (Sydney, Australia) reported the appointment of Pulmocor to market and distribute its asthma diagnostic tool, Aridol, in Portugal.

“Portugal was one of the 13 European countries included in the successful mutual recognition procedure earlier this year,” said Pharmaxis CEO Dr. Alan Robertson. “Bronchial challenge testing is a common procedure in Potuguese hospitals and we have sought a distributor that already has a strong franchise in this market and will provide the best support for Aridol.”
