• Cholestech (Hayward, California) reports the launch of its new dermatology kit for use in monitoring the key health indicators of Accutane patients — lipid and liver functions. The kit from contains everything dermatologists need to monitor the cholesterol and liver enzymes of Accutane patients during regular office visits. The kit features the Cholestech LDX lipid and liver screening system, which is CLIA-waived and CRMLN-certified. The Cholestech LDX enables physicians prescribing Accutane to obtain laboratory-accurate blood results during routine office visits in under five minutes with a simple finger stick. Cholestech offers efficient and economic diagnostic testing for cholesterol and related lipids, blood glucose and glycemic control, and liver enzymes at the point of care.

• Paradigm Medical (Salt Lake City) reported FDA clearance for its “new generation” of ultrasound devices. The products were developed through collaboration with MEDA, a Chinese manufacturer of ultrasound devices. Paradigm said that these devices include the P2000 A-Scan (used to measure axial length of the eye); P2200 Pachymeter (used for measuring corneal thickness); P2500 A-Scan/Pachymeter (a combination of the two stand-alone devices); P2700 AB/Scan (an ultrasound imaging device for detecting abnormalities within the eye); and P37-II (a more advanced AB/Scan used to provide portability for ophthalmology veterinary applications).Paradigm Medical produces ultrasound devices for the ophthalmic and medical industries.

• Royal Philips Electronics (Andover, Massachusetts) reported commercial release of Philips EP navigator, an imaging tool supporting clinicians in the treatment of complex cardiac rhythm disorders. EP Navigator combines pre–interventional 3-D CT images of a patients’ cardiac anatomy with live X-ray fluoroscopy catheter position information in a single image The EP navigator is available as an option with Philips Allura Xper family of cath lab solutions.
