The Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed; Washington) has hired Madeleine Smith, a Capitol Hill veteran with more than 20 years experience in healthcare policy and research, to serve as senior vice president in the Payment and Health Care Delivery Department. She will join AdvaMed on April 17. Since 2002, Smith has been as a member of the professional staff of the House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, where she was responsible for issues concerning quality, pay-for-performance initiatives, Medicare benefits and cost containment, and covering the uninsured, among others.

Karenann Terrell will join Baxter International (Deerfield, Illinois) April 10 as the company's chief information officer. Terrell comes to Baxter from DaimlerChrysler, where she was most recently vice president and chief information officer, Chrysler Group and Mercedes Benz North America. In addition, Jeanne Mason has been named as the company's corporate vice president, human resources. Mason will join Baxter May 15 from GE Insurance Solutions, where she was responsible for global human resource functions. Baxter assists healthcare professionals and their patients with treatment of complex medical conditions.

Colin Proudfoot has been named CFO of Biosystems Informatics Institute (Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK). He joins the organization from Xceleron, where he was financial director. Biosystems Informatics Institute is a new UK research establishment that, along with its commercial trading arm, Turbinia, develops systems biology and proteomics software tools to enable the development of better drugs and improved healthcare delivery.

Mark Landy has been appointed president of MIV Therapeutics (Vancouver, British Columbia). Landy, a nationally recognized Wall Street medical device analyst and industry authority, was most recently senior research analyst of medical supplies and devices at Susquehanna Financial Group. MIV Therapeutics is developing a next-generation line of advanced biocompatible coatings for passive and drug-eluting applications on cardiovascular stents and a broad range of other implantable medical devices.
