Formed in 1997, Genomic Solutions Inc. develops and markets instruments, software, consumables and services for analyzing genes and proteins. The company's GeneTAC Biochip System provides library creation and management, microarray production, hybridization, imaging, analysis, a full line of reagents and consumables, and research services. Additionally, the company offers GeneMAP pre-printed microarrays for gene expression analysis.

Genomic Solutions' Investigator Proteomics System streamlines the process of systematically identifying and characterizing large numbers of proteins for potential use as drug targets. In December 2001, the company acquired Cartesian Technologies Inc., further expanding its reach into high-throughput technologies and protein crystallography.

Genomics Solutions went public in May 2000, raising $57 million.

Genomic Solutions has a distribution agreement with PerkinElmer Life Sciences, of Boston, for regions outside the U.S. and Japan. The company also has a collaboration with ProteoMetrics Inc., of New York, to develop proteomics software, and an agreement with the Life Sciences Division of NuTec Sciences, of Atlanta, to expand and enhance the bioinformatics technology capabilities of the GeneTAC Biochip System. Currently, the company's customers consist of pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, universities and government-funded institutions.
