Biomune Systems Inc. said Wednesday it filed its first investigationalnew drug (IND) application with the FDA, for its drug, Immuno-C, totreat the gastrointestinal disease cryptosporidiosis."We've had very good luck in animals in almost all intestinaldiseases," a spokesman for the Salt Lake City company told BioWorld."We expect to learn a lot from our human testing," after which thecompany expects to target other intestinal areas that appear promising.The company, while trying to manufacture an artificial colostrum fordairy cows, realized the antibody-based drug might form a good basisfor treating immune diseases, the spokesman said.The company said the IND, more than 100,000 pages in length, is acompilation of 15 years of research.
