Biolinerx Ltd. and Hemispherian AS have established a joint venture (JV) to develop GLIX-1, Hemispherian’s lead drug candidate being developed as a potential treatment for newly diagnosed and recurrent glioblastoma.
Hemispherian AS has received IND clearance for GLIX-1 for the treatment of glioblastoma from the U.S. FDA. GLIX-1 targets DNA repair mechanisms, specifically the enzyme TET2, selectively in tumor cells while sparing healthy tissues.
The EMA’s Committee for Orphan Medicinal Products (COMP) has issued a positive opinion recommending European orphan drug designation for Hemispherian AS’s GLIX-1 for the treatment of glioma.
Hemispherian AS has been granted NOK16 million (US$1.54 million) by the Research Council of Norway, which the company intends to use to support development of its drug candidates aimed at treating platinum-resistant ovarian cancers.
