• Gen-Probe (San Diego) reported that Eric Lai, PhD, has joined the company as senior VP of R&D. Dr. Lai was most recently VP of pharmacogenetics experimental project coordination and analysis at GlaxoSmithKline. Gen-Probe makes rapid, accurate and cost-effective nucleic acid tests that are used primarily to diagnose human diseases and screen donated human blood.

Charles Struby, PhD, was named president/CEO of IVAX Diagnostics (Miami). Most recently, Struby was senior director of business development of The Medicines Company. IVAX Diagnostics makes diagnostic reagents, instrumentation, and software.

• Qiagen (Venlo, the Netherlands) said that Stephane Perrey, PhD, was named president of its Japanese subsidiary, Qiagen KK (Tokyo). Perrey joined the company from Third Wave/Hologic Japan and previously held various positions in the Japanese in vitro diagnostic industry, especially in infectious diseases segments.

Jorge Leon, PhD, has joined the scientific ParagonDx (Morrisville, North Carolina). As one of the founders of the Molecular Diagnostics and Applied Genomics business at Quest Diagnostics, Dr. Leon spent 12 years developing the company's molecular diagnostic strategy. ParagonDx makes applied molecular diagnostic products.
