• Enigma Diagnostics (Porton Down, UK), a point-of-care molecular diagnostics company, reported the opening of a new U.S. office in San Francisco and the appointment of Chris Melancon as VP of business development. Melancon will lead the new office and joins Enigma with more than 16 years' experience in life sciences and information technology industries, including senior positions at Applied Biosystems and Siebel Systems, a division of Oracle Corp.

• Spiration (Redmond, Washington) reported the promotion of Gregory Sessler from CFO to COO, and the hiring of Gerald Ng as vice president of finance. Sessler joined Spiration in 2002 with more than 20 years of financial and strategic management experience in the life sciences industry. Prior to joining Spiration, Sessler was senior VP and CFO of Rosetta Inpharmatics. Ng most recently held senior finance positions as CFO at LOUD Technologies and vice president of finance at Medtronic Physio-Control. Spiration is a developer of medical devices designed to benefit patients with acute and chronic conditions of the lung.

Mitch Hill has been named CFO of Visiogen (Irvine, California). Previously, Hill was executive VP and CFO at InSight Health Services. Visiogen is focused on developing products for cataract and refractive patients.
